Chaired by Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice President of FBCCI the meeting was attended by Directors and the General Body members of FBCCI. Rear Admiral T. J. A discussion Meeting between the business leaders of the FBCCI and a delegation of Kuwait House of National Works was held on 6 May 2009 at FBCCI Board Room. Chaired by Mr. Annisul Huq, President of FBCCI the meeting was attended by Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice President, Mr. Abu Alam Chowdhury, Vice President, FBCCI and Directors of FBCCI. Mr. Yousuf Abdul Wahab Al Ameeri, President of Kuwait House of National Works led the delegation while the other members of the team were Mr Sulaiman Abdul Razzak Al Asousi and Mr. Falah Amer Al Amer

 

Fourth SME fair-2009 organized by FBCCI held

The Fourth SME Fair-2009 organized by FBCCI was held during  24-27 May 2009 at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center. Mr. Muhammad Faruk Khan MP, Hon'ble Minister for Commerce as Chief Guest inaugurated the 4 day Fair on 24 May 2009.  H. E. Mr. Khalil Bin Mohammad Al-Khonji, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry was present at the ceremony as Special Guest. Mr. Annisul Huq, President, FBCCI, Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice-President, FBCCI, Mr. Abu Alam Chowdhury, Vice President, FBCC, Mr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Convener and Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Jamal, co convener of the fair management committee also spoke at the occasion. Directors of FBCCI, Heads of member bodies and the general body members of FBCCI were also present.

In his speech Mr. Muhammad Faruk Khan MP, Hon'ble Minister for Commerce said the government is considering further reduction of interest on bank loan for the Small and medium Enterprise (SME) sector, which is playing a major role to keep local economy vibrant. We have already brought down bank loan interest rate and we are further considering reducing it for the growth of SME sector, he said. Disclosing the government plan for the SME sector the hon'ble Minister said a stimulus package for the sector in the coming budget. He said the government is giving priority to the SME sector and would provide necessary support for its desired growth to enable it play a major role in economy and generating employment. Considering the role of businessmen in strengthening the country's economy, he said the government would ensure continued support to the businessmen.            

Special guest of the inaugural ceremony H. E. Mr. Khalil Bin Mohammad Al-Khonji, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the SME is popular all over the world and the Oman government is also giving special attention to the sector. He sought Bangladesh's support to attain food security and invited Bangladesh to invest in Oman's agriculture sector.

SME awards handed over to five winners

Closing Ceremony of the Fourth SME Fair-2009 was held on 27 May 2009 at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center. Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Hon'ble President of Bangladesh as Chief Guest formally announced the closing of the fair. The hon'ble President also distributed the FBCCI- Standard Chartered SME Award-2009 to five winners at the ceremony. Hon'ble Minister for Finance Mr. Abul Maal A. Muhith was present as special Guest, Mr. Annisul Huq, President FBCCI, Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice-President, FBCCI, Mr. Abu Alam Chowdhury, Vice President, FBCCI, Mr. Osman Morad, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank & high officials of the bank, Directors of FBCCI, Heads of member bodies and the general body members were also present.

In his speech Mr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Hon'ble President of Bangladesh asked the business community to work hand in hand with the government for boosting the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). `The government has given the SME sector top priority for economic development. It has been getting various supports including low -interest loan. I think the trade bodies will also come forward,' he said.

A Press Conference on SME Fair 2009 and FBCCI-Standard Chartered SME Award-2009 was held on 21 May 2009 at FBCCI Conference Center. Mr. Annisul Huq, President of FBCCI briefed the press about the fair organized by FBCCI for the fourth time. Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice-President, FBCCI, Mr. Abu Alam Chowdhury, Vice-President, FBCCI, Mr. Kamaluddin Ahmed, Convener of the fair management committee, Directors of FBCCI  and the members of fair committee were present.  Mr. Hassan O. Rashid, General Manager, SME Banking of Standard Chartered Bank  also attended the programme


Contract signing Ceremony of Bangladesh Participation in the Shanghai World Expo
FBCCI President appointed the Commissioner General of Bangladesh Chapter

A contract signing ceremony of Bangladesh participation in the forthcoming World Expo-2010, Shanghai was held on 19 March, 2009 in the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce, Bangladesh Secretariat. Mr. Annisul Huq, President of FBCCI on behalf of Bangladesh chapter and Mr. Zhou Xiangrian, Deputy Director, International Participants Department, Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination on behalf of the Organizer signed the agreement. Mr. Annisul Huq has been appointed the Commissioner General of Bangladesh Chapter of World Expo, Shanghai 2010 by the Government of Bangladesh. Mr. Feroz Ahmed, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Abul Kashem Ahmed, First Vice President, FBCCI, Mr. Abu Alam Chowdhury, Vice President, FBCCI and Mr. Mohammad Shahab Ullah, Vice Chairman of EPB were also present in the signing ceremony.

Seminar on Business to Business Promotion between the Netherlands and Bangladesh

A Seminar on `Business to Business Promotion between the Netherlands and Bangladesh' jointly organized by the Netherlands Embassy and FBCCI was held at a city hotel on 19 March, 2009. Mr. Annisul Huq, President of FBCCI attended the seminar as Chief Guest while H.E. Ms. Bea Ten Tusscher, Ambassador of Netherland, Mr. Abu Alam Chowdhury, Vice President, FBCCI, Mr. Aftab Ul Islam, Director, FBCCI & Chair of the Seminar,  Mr. Michiel Reynders, Second Secretary of the Embassy, Directors of FBCCI and Entrepreneurs of the country  also participated. The seminar aims at informing the business community of opportunities Netherlands Government's Private Sectors Investment  Programme (PSI), the match making facilities (MMF) and ORIO programme. Netherlands Agency for International Business and Corporation (EVD) has launched a new fund for entrepreneurs in developing countries including Bangladesh.

FBCCI ask for Tk 6,000 crore bailoutGovt mulls 'special package' to help fight recession fallout

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) sought a Tk 6,000 crore rescue package to cope with the global financial meltdown. FBCCI  leaders led by President Mr. Annisul Huq proposed a Tk 6,000 crore bailout package to deal with the economic recession and also asked the government to take initiatives to help boost the country's economy at a meeting with the Hon'ble Prime Minister at her office on 15 March, 2009  .Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina  said the government would offer 'special package' to save country's business sectors from any possible negative impact of the current global economic recession.
